Relieve Your Temptation!

I don’t know why this came to me as I was reading Matthew 4. It kind of takes me back to when I wrote poetry as a teenager. As I was taking mental notes on all that took place before Jesus’ ministry I kept summing it up with one word descriptions. While this is not in depth, nor a revelation by any means I thought it was kind of neat. I shared it with a few others a while back but thought it would be neat to share it again.

Jesus’
Temptation
was a
Preparation
to draw a
Congregation
for the
Education
of God’s
Revelation
through his son’s
Reputation
bringing
Dedication
from the multitude!

The one point that stuck out in my mind was the use of scripture by the Lord to overcome temptation. I have learned that lesson well. You must know it so well, wall-papering your mind with it so that when, not if, temptation comes, the Word just comes out naturally. Usually, when we are under pressure to give into sin is not the best time to be grappling for a weapon, just as a soldier would not go into battle and leave his weapon back at the rear, we need to arm ourselves and be ready for battle at a moments notice.

God’s Word says

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Another item worthy to note, is that the devil, himself, used the scripture against the Lord, he is very well versed and knows how to use it against us. Especially Christians who are weak in knowledge of God’s Word.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. James 2:19

We often wonder why we have to go through temptations. There is not an easy answer, though the Bible has some insight to that end. In Jesus’ case, I believe God used it to not only prepare Him for His ministry but also as an example to us as to how to fight temptation…..

With His Word!

    Hi C…
    Yep…Good entry.
What’s so deceptive about the enemy (devil and his cohorts) or even some religious people. They will rattle of scripture but they will leave out certain words or even take scripture out of context, and forget the “Rest of the Story.”
Stay cool down there you goofy cat…Greg
I always seem to get tempted when I let go of God’s Hand. Young or old He wants us all to stay in His Grip.

  2. This is the essence of the synoptic gospels, and you have worded it plainly and with grace.  "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."  (Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV)  Shell, thank you for this reminder.  Be well my sister, my friend.  Satan is snapping his jaws at us, and he is miserable in his fate.  Just like Jesus, we must fight the evil one mightily.  He is, after all, relentless.

  3. Hi Shell,

It\’s middle of the night for me. I fell asleep then woke up then came here so I am sort of out of it but it seems I have read this before. Am I going crazy? Or did you email it to me or something? Anyways, it\’s great. You need to write more often, but you already know that.

I meant to thank you for your sweet comments. So amazing I was on your mind and you didn\’t know why, and now you do. Wow.

Have a great night. I\’m going back to bed now.

    Hugs,
    Liz

  4. I’ve nominated you for the blogging award. You can visit my blog and download the award. Post it at your page, then nominate seven other people to receive the award. List their names in your blog and tell everyone a little about those people. Finally, go to those people’s spaces and let them know they’ve been nominated and how to get to your space to read the instructions

  5. Hey Shell,I agree that we make the gospel of God harder than it need be. You are speaking truth. And believe it or not I also pray that my words will not be idle, useless and empty. We have something in common!! I want more than anything to please the Lord with my words and deeds. I live in Nixa, which is @5 miles South of Springfield and @25 miles North of Branson. I was born in L.A. but my parents moved us back here when I was 5 so I don\’t remember much about California at all. I\’m very familiar with Joplin as I go there for business about once a month and my aunt live in St. Louis for 25 years but as she got older she got tired of all the hustle and moved to Mt. Vernon, MO. quite a switch to city living I would think. Oh and I saw that you\’re friends with Greg (Blogquest). We used to go to church together. He\’s a good friend. Be Well. I\’m so happy to get to know you.Angie
